In the case of serious damage of the tooth's tissues by caries or external cause, reconstruction by means of light-hardening filling (light curable seal) is impossible. For such cases onlay and inlay techniques are used which are conducted in the prosthetic laboratory; in more advanced destruction and in root canal treatments - dental crowns are applied. Lack of teeth can be reconstructed by means of bridges supported by cement crowns, or in milder cases - adhesive bridges - without grinding of the teeth. Advanced technology, such as cercon allows the end result of the fillings look almost identical with natural teeth. In the case of the lack of a larger number of teeth, movable components are employed, starting with classical acrylic prostheses to skeletal dentures and more esthetic acetal dentures and prostheses on latches.
